Novak Djokovic, the Joker, as he is also known, became the King for a day on centre court winning a second Australian Open title in four years.
As the TV camera’s followed the Serbian down through the corridors of Tennis Australia walking past the pictures of previous champions, it caught Djokovic glancing at an image of himself, three years younger, winning the 2008 edition of the first grand slam of the year.
What an image to carry with you onto Rod Laver Arena as you attempt to recreate that very memory.
There was something different about the world number three at the Australian Open this year. It was in his walk, his talk and his game. He has always been supremely confident, but there was something else, a preparedness that fashioned an air of expectation, belief and resolve in the 23- year-old.

‘Lastly, I just want to say that now, I finally feel like you guys can call me ‘Aussie Kim’, because I won the title’.
So said Kim Clijsters in her victory speech after holding the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Trophy aloft for the first time in her career.
The joy, relief and satisfaction were all evident in the tears shed by Clijsters as the last point was secured at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne yesterday.
‘Yeah, they're all emotional. Obviously, you know, I think what overwhelms me is that it's so intense up until, you know, that last shot, and then all of a sudden it's finished. Then it's just like a big relief.
‘But to win it in this way means it a lot. I think it's that moment that overwhelms you, where your mind has been so focused, I'm fighting every shot, running a lot of balls down, and it's finished. That's what makes it just nice, and I guess this big relief that kind of just, yeah, overwhelms you a little bit.’

Be aware of the underdog.Best advice to Andy Murray to prepare him for his semi-final match tonight against the determined Spaniard, David Ferrer. After the early rounds threw up very few surprises, the semi-finals have strayed dramatically from the expected menu, Federer and Wozniacki both going down to lower ranked opponents.

1. Being a professional tennis player doesn’t mean you can’t moonlight as a reality TV show personality. Novak Djokovic did just that when he danced a Sassy number with Dancing with the Stars celebrity, Kym Johnson, after his match with countryman Victor Troicki finished early on Day five.
2. The gap between the top two (Nadal and Federer) and the pretenders (Djokovic and Murray) and the rest is not as big as we might think. That’s what Rafa thinks anyway. For me there are much more than six or seven on the tour that can beat everybody.
